Switch mileage apps without losing your records

Keep earlier mileage exports, choose a clear handover date and check the first new drives before retiring your old tracking setup.

Export before you cancel or delete

Open your current mileage app and export the periods you need to retain. Keep the readable report and the underlying CSV if offered. Open both files and check that dates, distances and purposes are present, rather than assuming a successful download contains everything.

Keep copies outside the old app. A saved report and the app’s own restorable backup are different formats; one does not necessarily replace the other. Check what the old provider makes available after cancellation.

Choose a clear changeover date

Pick a date you can recognise in both systems. For example, use the first day of a new reporting month. Save the last report from the old app and note the date and time at which you began using the new one.

If you compare both trackers briefly, label the overlap and avoid counting the same journey twice in your final combined records. Compare known trips rather than assuming identical detection boundaries or route distances.

Understand what moves into Tallymile

Tallymile begins logging after setup and the required permissions. Keep your previous app’s exports for earlier periods. This guide does not promise an import of another app’s CSV or reconstruction of old journeys from a report.

Confirm location and motion permissions and review tracking health. Check the first few journeys for start and end points, distance and classification. An old mileage history is not evidence that the new detector is working.

Keep an understandable archive

Use filenames with the app, reporting period and export date, and keep a short handover note. A fictional example is “previous-app-2026-09-export-2026-10-01.csv”. Retain originals alongside any spreadsheet you create for your own review.

In Tallymile, logging and classification are free, current-month reports are free and a raw CSV of all drives remains available. Pro adds reports for any period and the year-end summary. Check the exported files before sharing them and ask the recipient which records they require. This is record-keeping guidance, not tax advice.
